Unlike artists who start with a blank canvas, quite often we have a number of constraints. We attend a brief, have some goals to keep in mind.... But what inspires us is what we call "insides", people's behaviour. We like to caricature it. Advertisement also inspires us. It feeds itself.

Why did you choose to be called « Les Melville »?

What we do is create for other people, but this time we had to create something for ourselves and find a name! Advertisement required that it be quite neutral. We picked up "Les Melville" as we liked the reference to the writer and the director. We also liked how it sounded. Picking up a good name was important. Sometimes you pick up a name and, as time passes by, it gets a new meaning. Suppose you called yourself "2000 Agency", you would go out of fashion really quick.


Do you see yourself as creative people?

We are asked to come out with pure ideas! It's amazing! Actually, we didn't really know what we wanted to do in the first place. We knew what we didn't want. There is a new generation of creatives who do advertisement because that's what they studied. We came to it because we were bad at school! It's also important to mention that we have a sense of comedy. Jokes are what we do best. We always try to bring comedy to what we do. It's very helpful in advertisement, it enables to create complicity.
